Danny Ross Alderson Sr.

Danny Ross Alderson, Sr., age 80, of Charleston, WV, and Hendersonville, TN, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018, at his home in Hendersonville, surrounded by the love of his family. Our beloved Danny fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer / LBD and we are so very proud of him.

He was born May 22, 1937, at Wevaco, WV, he was the first born of the late Harold and Eunice Alderson.

Danny attended Decota Elementary, Leewood Jr. High School and East Bank High School where he was a member of the EBHS “Pioneer Band,” was Captain of the band, first chair trumpet, solo trumpet, and he was a member of “All County Band.” Danny was also a member of The Boy Scouts.

Before entering the military, Danny married his childhood sweetheart.

He was a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, and served with “Hell on Wheels” 2nd Armored Division at Ft. Hood, TX. He also was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Band, was first chair trumpet and solo trumpet. He played “Taps” for our fallen military soldiers.

After the military, Danny was employed by Armour & Company, Chicago, as assistant plant manager, and was a member of the Armour Men’s Club and Itasca County Club.

He moved back to WV, and was Supervisor at Kaiser Aluminum Ravenswood, and Supervisor for US Steel Carbon, WV.

Danny returned to Chicago to accept a position as Plant Manager for Illinois Tool Works / A J Gerrard Company of Des Plaines, IL. He later retired as General Manager of Illinois Tool Works/Pabco Nitro, WV.

He liked bowling and golfing, loved his WVU sports, and was dedicated to Jerry West basketball. Danny also loved to dance.

We weep for our loss of husband, father, grandfather, great – grandfather, brother, and friend, but celebrate his new Heavenly home.

Preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Antionette, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Emmett and Bertha Hamilton.

Those left to cherish his memory, his life-long sweetheart and loving wife, Priscilla; his loving sons, Danny Ross (Sue) of Sharon, WV, and Richard Allen (Cassie) of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren, Amber, Chelsey, Danyelle, and Nathan; and five great-grandchildren; sister, Lana Ferrell (Steve) of Fairfield Glade, TN.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Dunbar (Paul) of Milan, MI, Colleen Stanley (Gary) of Nicholasville, KY, Sheila Wade (Robert) of Charleston, WV; brothers-in-law, Charles Hamilton of Marmet and Terry Hamilton of Charleston, WV.

Our thanks to Dr. Mahelia George and staff of VA / Nashville. Our thanks to Highpoint Hospice for the expert professional care Danny received. And our special thanks to Danny’s caregiver, Julie Ford.

But most of all “Special Thanks and Appreciation” for the loving care he received from his sons, Richard and Danny Ross.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harding Funerals & Cremations.

A celebration of Danny’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London, WV, with U.S. Army Military Honors.
