TGA announces Franklin American Mortgage as title sponsor for state open

The 70th renewal of the Tennessee Golf Association’s State Open championship promises to be the best one yet, and the TGA is excited to welcome a new title sponsor for the event.

Franklin American Mortgage Company has announced a partnership to present this year’s tournament, the Franklin American Mortgage State Open, scheduled for May 22-24 at The Grove in College Grove, TN.

“As a life-long resident of Middle Tennessee and an avid golfer, I understand what the State Open Championship means to the community,” said Dan Crockett, president/CEO of Franklin American Mortgage Company. “Franklin American Mortgage has always been headquartered in the Nashville area, making our title sponsorship a natural fit. We wish all of this year’s participants the best of luck and look forward to being a part of the tournament for years to come.”

Franklin American was founded 24 years ago in a small office building in Brentwood and has since become one of the largest mortgage companies in the United States.

"The Tennessee State Open is the premier Championship for amateurs and professionals in our state and we are honored to have Franklin American Mortgage as title sponsor," said Chad Anderson, the executive director for the Tennessee Golf Association. "Franklin American is involved in many first class events like the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl and we look forward to providing a great Championship for our players.”

This will be the first time that The Grove has hosted the TGA State Open Championship.

The Grove, located in Williamson County, is an 18-hole Greg Norman Signature Design golf course that incorporates the natural rolling hills, meandering stream beds and native grasses of Middle Tennessee. Opened in 2012, the course is a par-72 layout measuring 7,300 yards from the longest tees.

Jonathan Hodge of Knoxville – currently a member of the Web.com Tour – won the 2017 championship by three strokes over Grant Leaver (Centerville), Steven Fox (Hendersonville), Chad Merzbacher (Knoxville) and Clayton Gregory (Bartlett) at Foxland Harbor.

The first TGA State Open Championship was played in 1949 at Belle Meade Country Club.
